Love this game!!!2009-10-225 / 5
Mystic Quest was the one of the first games I ever played, and I hold it near and dear to me, Alot of people think this game is stupid but to me its one of the best snes games ever made. I have played this many times, its a great game and I love it, But! if you don't have a snes anymore you may want to get one, they haven't released this for the wii virtual console.
A good starting point2009-06-145 / 5
It it werent for this game, I probibly would not be playing RPG's today. This game launched me into the RPG world (course I was fairly young when this game came out.) From here, I played many more "Square" games, including the so-called "True" FF series, and then other RPG's. This is a great starting point for any young gamer, but the gameplay falls more along the likes of Pokemon (not anything against Pokemon)

All in all, for a kid starting to play the FF series, this is a good starting point!
RPG/Adventure Beginners Game2009-04-135 / 5
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest was released in 1992. If I remember correctly and was to cater to the audience that had either never played an rpg before or wanted to but was daunted by how confusing they were,(I.E. Dragon Warrior series, Might and Magic).

So what you can expect from this game is going to be simplicity in all areas of approach to the game. The quests are directions for a lack of a better word, (instead of your standard rock turning looking for clues). Your party consists or two ppl most of the time, the hero and a partner, (which changes depending on where you are at in the world/story chain). Items/gear/spells have been also toned to make management/upgrades easier to use and manage efficiently. Lastly monster encounters are somewhat optional, but mainly defined in advance due to the fact you see them on the screen and in your path. So the invisible random encounters one would normally expect from most RPG's are not present in Mystic Quest.

So what does this boil down to? The same that Squaresoft and Nintendo Power warned at the time of release of this game, (yes I had a sub to them). This game is not meant/intended for the serious rpger! The whole purpose behind this game was to entice many new ppl into enjoying rpg's and makeing the market for them much bigger. While I beat this game faster than any rpg I have ever purchased, my reason for purchase at the time was only because I was Final Fantasy starved. Now I'm not down grading the game in any way shape or form, it's plays exactly the way it was for ->BEGINNERS OF RPGS<-, and it did that very well hence my 5 stars so if you are new or wanting to get your feet wet this is hands down the best game ever for that, but oddly this game is not for the hardcore rpg nut unless it completes your collection.
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest2008-04-013 / 5
Game is not of the actual Final Fantasy genre. It is like an encountering slow lvling adventure where the encounters are engaged by the player and are not random. It is fun, but is not like many of the Final Fantasy games.
Great entry-level RPG2008-02-044 / 5
This is the first RPG that I had ever played. In that way, it was a great introduction, although it doesn't hold up so well now that I've played other games in the Final Fantasy series. This game is very simple, as it was meant to be an introductory-type of game. If you like retro-gaming though, this is worth a look. I thought it was worth my time, and I still play it every once and a while all these years later.
