| Final Fantasy - A Legend in Gaming | 2010-08-22 | 4 / 5 |
| | One of the best video games of all times. Having played some of the later ones, it was neat to see where the concepts had come from. While it took a little while to get used to the simpler gameplay, it was still that vintage Final Fantasy that I love so much. Great game. |
| Great Classic Game!!!!!! | 2010-08-07 | 5 / 5 |
| Though I agree that years later it appears as if this game is dated, and it is; but compared to most other NES RPGs released in the US, this was a gem. Like many other classic NES RPGs I now enjoy playing them on my cell phone using my emulator. This game is the perfect classic RPG in many ways:
Turn based system, though outdated, still has lots of room for strategy and increases the difficulty level greatly. There is some level grinding required, but it's fun and rarely monotonous. I also love the ability to choose your character classes. Sometimes I like going with 2 fighters and the obligatory white and black mage, other times I use red mages, thieves, or other fun groupings. It makes the game unique and interesting. Try beating the game with two thieves and two red mages! Gold is somewhat hard to come by early on, so it makes budgeting important.
Some points of interest: each class levels up at exactly the same experience points. If a character dies, then they gain no experience and can fall behind the others in levels. There are a few points in the game where you are pretty much forced to level grind for a bit, but other parts where you can go through a few areas without having to level up.
The graphics are pretty solid for the NES hardware and the music is catchy, even though it is rather computerized sounding. What stands out is that the game is fun and enjoyable even years later. |
| An auspicious start to the Final Fantasy series | 2010-04-13 | 4 / 5 |
| Compared to the sprawling worlds and storylines of current Final Fantasy games (FF12 and around that), this game is pitifully simple. And let's be honest, in these times, this game really isn't that impressive. The quest is simple, there is NO character development, and the weapons/armor system was very clunky. One thing that really bothered me was that you had to have someone drop their weapon or armor before you could pick up something else and equip it, and once thrown away, these items were irretrievable.
If you want to try this game, best to try the Gameboy Advance version of this game, which comes with a better item/weapon(and magic) system along with several bonus dungeons, and many cool items you never had before. Still, back then in the 80's, this game was admittedly one of the best of its kind, and even today, stands as a classic. |
| Simply some of the best! | 2010-01-02 | 5 / 5 |
| one of the classics!
don't play this version, play the revamped versions that are not nearly as annoying to level up in.
This version will have you level up for weeks just to advance. This was fine 20 years ago, but not now!
still, a classic! |
