love it2010-03-225 / 5
I love love love this game. I had trouble getting the force feedback to feel right to me and had to manually edit the configuration file the game uses to get it right. This was a major pain. Once I tweaked the force feedback to where I was happy, the game was great. There are areas that could use some improvement. The AI could be better and so could the graphics. But overall this is the game I keep coming back to. I could be playing Dirt2, GRID, rfactor, iracing, or need for speed(lol yeah right). GTR Evolution just seems to be the game that keeps me coming back for more. I think its the combination of really great tracks and cars. Sometimes I'm just in the mood to take a BMW down Nordschiefe, and GTR is the game to do it in. If you like racing sims, this is a must have. You won't regret it. If you like need for speed, this probably isn't for you, but try it anyway.
Beautiful, but completely unplayable2009-12-111 / 5
Cons: Modules take forever to load between each, so just to get the game set up just right can take up to 10 minutes, esp. on the Nurburgring. Plus, it's really hard to keep the cars on the track. I tried several different cars, and all but the open wheel cars would even begin to stay on the track. I know it takes a lot of practice to master a game, but just keeping the car on the pavement should not be that hard.

I really wanted to like this game, but unless you have at least double the minimum RAM it is unplayable because of all the micro-delays. The chop-chop of the frame rate happens at the most inopportune times, and for that fraction of a second while the game is loading more track data, you've spun out and into the guardrail. For this reason I cannot play the game because it is so busy doing housekeeping. There's just too much data, and unless you have like 4Gb of RAM and 1Gb of video RAM you're better off with even a Playstation one game. It's overkill. Even on my new PC the frame rate is infuriatingly slow (2.2Ghz 4400+ 250Gb hard drive AMDK6), so much slow that it freezes between turns on the track so that when it unfreezes your car is facing exactly the wrong way. I had to dumb it down a bit, and my default resolution is 1400 x 900 which I cannot enjoy, and even at 800 x 600 which is a sacrifice I should not have to make, I simply cannot tolerate the micro-interruptions while the game loads sections of the track. The frame rate then resembles more of a slide show than an actual enjoyable game. On the short tracks, it's not so much a problem, but we've all seen these ovals and figure of eights before. I'm talking about the really cool tracks, the Nurburgring, the 14-mile tracks with over 50 turns, that I really wanted to enjoy.

So in order to make the game more of a game you basically have to defeat the purpose of the designer in the first place, that is, to show off the excellent graphics. You have to go back to 1991 and set the resolution to a comical 640 x 400 to make the game run at all smoothly, unless, as I mentioned, you have HUGE amounts of video RAM and computer SDRAM to handle the massive amounts of data. Even a 1998 or 1999 driving game on a Playstation 2 is much more enjoyable, because all the scenery, the fluff, is cut out, and you can focus on driving. Example: Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, or Gran Turismo 4, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. Me and my friends spent months and years playing the games, because they were, in fact, replayble, and there was no waiting for the game to pick up at the seams where the last section let off. We'd all go, WTF? What's up with that? That is, because the programmers of the PS1 and PS2/3/P games already knew not to have a game that hesitated while it loaded more data at 220 miles per hour. That would have been a joke!

So, I had to uninstall GT-R Evolution because of these shortcomings. GT-R Evolution has to go the disk to load sections of track, which are not seamless, they are very choppy, and rather than lose my temper, I just put the game by the trash can at my local car wash. 1GB of RAM and 305MB of video Ram on a GeoForce 6150 should be more than enough, but let's face it--GT-R Evolution is a total memory hog, even with all the services cut to the bare minimum, the game is not a pleasure at all to play. Give me RalliSport Challenge any day of the week, it is so much more realistic and fun because the game does not have to stop to load sections of the track during game play. Think about that, programmers, the next time you design a racing game. Focus on the driveability and not scenery. GT-R is such a memory hog, and it takes way, way too long to load between time trial, setup and racing. The so-called "arcade" mode is still simulator mode, and even with the opponents set to minimum skill, they manage to stay on the track but your car doesn't. And that is just no fun at all.
Recomendo2009-12-074 / 5
Ainda não consegui instalar, pois necessito de up grade no meu equipamento, pois só roda com placa de vídeo de no mínimo 256 megabites. Já experimentei o jogo em outras máquinas mais poderosas e é excelente, entrega dentro do prazo. Recomendo.
Great Sim2009-09-255 / 5
As one of the reviewers pointed out, if you liked GTR2, you will surely like GTR Evolution. I have not played Race 07, however compared to GTR2, this title expands on the awesome pedigree of the series by providing the user with a different selection of cars, tracks as well as some graphics and AI upgrades. All the great physics and realism are there and this game is such a delight to play with Logitech G25 wheel. I have played all the new titles that came out in the past few years such Dirt 1 and 2, GRID, NFS Shift, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and I keep coming back to GTR2 and GTR Evolution because the depth and realism of these games remain unmatched. If you are passionate about cars and racing sims, then there are no better games than GTR Evolution and GTR2 for you to play.
Fun, but freezes sometimes2009-07-114 / 5
Great fun. Game has frozen a couple of times. Could do with some offroad tracks.
