| Wow, I think the reviews here are a bit bloated and need a reality check. This record was more than tedious to get through; it was arduous: bloated solos that go nowhere, insipid bass lines that could have been played by my brother. Rock indulgence at it's very worst. Boring. I'm not even going to bother downloading Beck-Ola as it doesn't earn the computer memory it would take. I've been exploring Beck as of late and was pleasantly surprised by his first post-Yardbirds record "Truth" (3.5 stars). It was quirky, fun, and all over the place with heart throughout. But Beck-Ola is just tedious blues rock that been done better by so many others. In this case the other Yardbird guitarists did so much better with their respective endeavors, especially the sound and substance that Jimmy Page would go on to create. There's a dullness, as if the musicans themselves got no joy from their creation. Love "Wired," but there's none of the subtlety that made Wired" so good on Beck-Ola. I also absolutely Love "Live at Ronnie Scott's," which coincidently doesn't have any of the tunes on "Beck-Ola" on it but several from "Truth," so even the artist himself didn't think these songs made the grade. Pete Townsend once said of Beck, "Brilliant guitarist, too bad he's got nothing to say." Beck-Ola doesn't even live up to that. Absolute Rubbish, except for maybe his version of Jailhouse Rock, which doesn't absolutely suck. Skip this and buy "The Song Remains the Same," if you want blues rock that matters. |

| Band's second stellar effort, first gracing our ears in 1969. His second of two lp's with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood on board. Definitely a classic from that era. Tunes here I got into the most were the rocking "Spanish Boots", "Plyuth", the hard-rocking (sort to speak) seven-minute "Rice Pudding" and the two Elvis covers (actually do a nice job) "All Shook Up" and "Jailhouse Rock". I've read a few blogs, comments, reviews, etc. about this CD reissue and it's been noted that at the time this lp was released, Beck was REALLY trying to sort of (in his own way) compete with Page - with Zeppelin fast becoming a rock & roll giant at the same time Clapton was with Cream. Nonetheless, a lot of Jeff Beck fans will tell you he may not be a 'huge' of a household name as those other two former Yardbird's guitarists, but he is still truly a brilliant musician. |

| This album is a great example of 1960's rock at it's best!! Jeff Beck really tears the guitar up on this album!! Rod Stewart as the lead singer is wonderful!!!! |

Dropping some of the generic rawness and expanding his blues guitar palate, Beck's sophomore release is worthy of at least attempting to live up to some hype. |
